WILDLIFE AND BIRDWATCHING

SAFARIS ON THE ISLE OF MULL

Glorious weather this week with plenty to see with the normal sightings of GE and WTE, the WTE chicks that we watch are progressing well and the WTE nesting opposite me are being seen more often sat in the trees close to the nest. My Hoodies have not faired so well as both chick seem to have been taken from the nest. Several Rock Doves have gone missing just leaving plenty of feathers on my lawn and a well fed Sparrow Hawk.

Otters sightings have been ok with several family groups about and Porpoise sighting close in. 2 new HH nest sight have been located with several “ food passes “ being seen. Wednesday was a day off so got up early and left the house just after 2am to look for Owls and visit a GE nest site only saw SEO but sat for nearly an hour waiting to see if GE were still nesting at one of the location as I had not seen any activity recently. Shortly after 5am both adults flew to nest site but did not go straight to the nest then both flew off F returned and did visit the nest as the M sat below eating a Rabbit. So still unsure if they will suddenly turn up with a youngster. Nice views of Otter, 4 WTE and 2 M HH fighting all before 7am.

Perhaps highlight of the week, would have been on Saturday watching the Osprey hunting over the water. The weather and the fact that it is light so early seems to make the better views of the wildlife early in the day or later on, as I think the birds that are migratory and visit Spain have adopted an “afternoon sleep “ attitude.

We also have had great close up views of Snowy Owl on my tours this week let hope they will continue along with the weather.
