During “ Summer “ we have seen plenty. Otters have been out and about, on some day we have seen up to 7 and for 4 days running the least we saw was 4. Hen Harriers are becoming more difficult to see and the WTE are moving around a lot more and turning up where we do not normally see them, Its basically like being a parent when the kids leave home the adults can at long last get away for that over due holiday, so off they all go to strange places.
Little birds are being seen more, sat in the garden yesterday watching 2 White throats worked their way along the fence as a couple of willow warblers were collecting flies in the pines as a male Stonechat kept dropping down to get some food.
My WTEs are being seen more often back in the trees opposite. GEs have been seen more often as the good weather has made it easy to see them hunting up high over their territories .
The three stages are resting up during the day in the small trees at the back of the garden, the antlers are now fully formed and the velvet covering has gone. Weight is getting put on for the start of the rut at the end of next month. The rut to them must be like a week in Ibiza to some of my friends.
Again this week we have on several tours seen the Osprey which is always a treat here on Mull, a college of mine has told me that he has seen two Ospreys at a time. Collimation is a terrible thing to have in your Binoculars . I cannot bring myself to tell him this.
Monday night for the first time this year I heard a Barn Owl hunting over the field. I hope it stays as I have one of my “Breaks” happening this weekend and if “ Summer “returns it would be nice to sit out and see it hunting rather than me having to get the stuffed one out again.
And finally to the lady that rang me today asking about a tour and enquiring “how my wife was enjoying her hoover”, Well its rather strange as money has been deposited in to my wife's ebay account and the hoover I think has gone missing. When I built the house I did treat my wife to a large cleaning cupboard but as I never leave my binoculars in there I obviously like most men never visit this place so cannot be 100 % sure.
