The two young WTE chicks that we are watching are getting bigger and think it will only be a week or so before they make their way from the nest and start flying. 12 chicks have been ringed here on Mull this year. The GE survey by the rspb is still on going, personally I think it will be another poor year for the GE.
I have noticed that a lot of our small birds seem to have disappeared, I guess that they are still here but perhaps now going through a “ feather change “. I am spending a lot less on bird food because of this, and if this continues I will have saved enough for a Calmac breakfast, that’s assuming that I can get off the Island on the ferry with the up coming strike planned for this week.
This week I am going once again away to brush up on rarer bird I D ’s so early Friday morning I will be back at Leighton Moss looking for the rare Gallinula chloropus and Fulica atra and maybe a thermometer reading above 14 degrees . Off now to remove the solar panels off the roof and put the anti freeze back in the vehicle, [not sure why I took it out] as we head back towards winter.
